We
only had 30 miles to go before stopping at a Flying J for fuel...
(translate that: diesel and coffee---in that order) and rest rooms. Don't forget the rest rooms. Every stop. Need it or not. If not, you will---just after you get on the road again. You know what I'm talking about, I know you do!

It's a very bright day again, and I was surprised to see so many trucks lined up at this hour of the day. I never get tired of looking at the trucks and taking pictures of them all lined up, or the colors, or the drivers, or the logos. In Dallas, I shot some videos and talked with a lady truck driver. But I'm getting ahead of myself. We're not in Dallas yet, are we!
COFFEE SHOP ADVENTURES
There
was an older man in this Flying J who's even less savvy than I ---
and older, did I mention that? You know how sometimes you just fall in love with people you meet along the way? I just loved this man. Slender and not very tall. Some gray hair. Dark brown, weathered face. And a sweet, precious smile with a missing tooth in front. He was having a lot of trouble figuring out the various coffee and Latte machines. So I helped him ---have trouble, that is. We both made a mess.

First he had several little flavored coffee creamer cups In his hand---
you
know the kind. But he didn't know how to get an interesting coffee set
up. He said he was used to the old-fashioned kind, and made a gesture
of pouring from a pot. So, anyway, I howed him the coffee dispensers
---all fifteen of them---but he decided he wanted a latte. Oh, quite
adventurous for the old-fashioned guy who's used to pouring into a cup from a
percolator!
So
I showed him how to press the fancy red half-moon-shaped button.
We waited and watched. Only water came out. At that point I think he lost confidence in me. I Can't imagine why, can you? So the coffee lady came and fixed the machine and I went about the business of getting my morning coffee. My much-needed coffee by now. My friend was on his own.

While
he was on his latte adventure, I proceeded to have an adventure of my
own, being more adept with these modern machines. Enjoying the science
of blending my decaf with some real" pumpkin spice, while wishing they
had hazelnut, I spotted the hazelnut (right next to the decaf--- duh!)
So I decided to pour out a little from my already full cup to make room
for the hazelnut. At that point, I dropped the whole 16 oz. cup of
coffee! Fortunately only a little wound up in my jeans and the rest went into the overflow. WHEW! Happily, with an empty cup, I started over and fixed the
perfect blend of coffee. :) Very happy.
I
went to check up on my friend.
Oh my! What a mess he had made! Much worse than mine. But, he looked very happy. We were both so content!!! We had what we wanted. and I think my friend was quite proud of his accomplishment! As they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I love the way you make friends wherever you go. You are a lot of fun to be around, Mom.
ReplyDeleteHaha, what a fun story! I can picture it playing out in my head. I'm glad it had such a happy ending- sometimes making a mess can be more fun than keeping things in perfect order!
