GETTING STARTED
We got a late start today. We had intended to leave at noon, since it's only 3-1/2 hours to Dallas. We couldn't find a good place to stop between Dallas and Big Spring or we would have split the days more evenly. We hope to take a couple of days in Big Spring before moving on to El Paso. In El Paso we'll try to connect with Tina's daughter, Kelsey, whose husband, Tim, finished his military training and has been transferred to Ft. Bliss as a platoon leader. We've stayed at the FamCamp there a few times. It's pleasant. Good laundromat--- although, true to fashion, I've brought enough clothes to last about six weeks. I often refer to this RV as my 7 ton, 32 ft. Suitcase. :)
Michael had trouble with the hitch but finally got hitched.
Something was wrong but we eventually got on the road.
Michael took this great shot of a Flicker
when he was out hitching up in the freezing cold!
You can see that Michael is adjusting the pressure in the airbags.
The gauge has controls for pressure and he can balance the right and left, etc.
He installed the air bags and gauge last summer. He's talented, no?
DRIVING THROUGH SHREVEPORT
I'm always intrigued by these painted buildings. Shreveport has a lot of casinos but also has a wonderful harbor and shopping mall, and some great restaurants---which Kim and Greg have introduced us to. Michael's daughter, Kim and her husband always know the best places to dine! They were professors at Centenary College in Shreveport but have recently moved to Boulder. We missed seeing them this time!!!
These don't show up very well, taken through the window of a moving vehicle.
So, now we're headed out of Shreveport.
We plan to stop at a Flying J about 40 miles from here.
See you there!

Over half way! Of course that is in blog time and not in real time. I figure you are already in Phoenix actually by now!!! Love the bird pictures - have I told you I am a birder?
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, Irene, we've been here since last Wednesday. I have posts queued up but it takes forever to upload the pictures, as we're using our air card, through cell phone towers, on 3g. It takes 3-4 times longer than it should, very painful. So, I'm only half-way through the posts because of pictures. Even a post with just pictures takes forever!
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't know you were a birder. We love birds but aren't exactly birdwatchers, although I used to be. Francis MacNutt is an avid birdwatcher and so is his exec. assistant, Lauren!
Thank you for commenting, it means so much to me to know you are reading and enjoying the blog (some segments more than others, I'm sure!) Love ya! C.
Love the comment about the 7 ton suitcase! I found myself looking for a "like" button! And what a great photo of the flicker! I need to brush up on my birds. I would have thought it to be a woodpecker. Love the chimp! Looks like my dear husband ♥
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great picture of a red-bellied woodpecker! I just love them. :)
